SORRY, SOLD! 1935 Urania Piccola Typewriter
  • SORRY, SOLD! 1935 Urania Piccola Typewriter

    € 720,00Prijs

This is a typewriter from another planet! The rare and renowned Urania Piccola typewriter!  The Urania typewriter with its unusual elements including a right-hand carriage return lever is a component of the collections of many of the most serious typewriter collectors. This particular one comes from Spain and was probably brought here immediately after the war when there was a great influx of Germans to Spain. It comes from my personal collection but it is time to "thin out" the shelves.

This Urania is in extraordinarily fine condition (even prior to restoration) and is a delight to type with. I have used it myself and find the typing to be a joy. The platen is in brilliant condition with a hardness rating of ~90 (like a new platen). It is ready to type on! It has been thoroughly cleaned, serviced and adjusted. The logos and "decals" are all original, as is every other aspect of this fine typewriter.

Like all of our typewriters this is a fully-working typewriter. It comes with the "Acme" lead certification seal attached to the typewriter which permanently identifies it as a genuine Acme-restored typewriter and provides for a one year warranty. We guarantee safe delivery and provide careful and attentive after-purchase advice and assistance from the date of purchase to the end of eternity to ensure your full satisfaction. In terms of an investment, the Acme Seal proves that this machine was restored by the Acme Type Machine Company. This can add value in the event that you wish to sell this typewriter in the future.

As regards Urania typewriters, the great typewriter historian Will Davis has written of them: "...[the] Klein-Urania can be found to have no real faults". You can find his review of this typewriter here: http://davistypewriters.blogspot.com/2012/10/klein-urania.html.
And for another perspective, read here the equally great Robert Messenger who writes of the Urania-Klein: "I just love it...".

Mechanically, this typewriter is working beautifully. The chrome and other metals are in excellent condition all-around. The paper feeder rollers are in fine condition gripping the paper appropriately well. The rubber feet are soft and in fine condition. All mechanical devices work as originally designed.

Cosmetically the condition is excellent. There are a few points of paint loss (rubbing) on the edges here and there but largely not noticeable. The gold on the lettering is original and shining bright.  The knobs are intact and undamaged. The keytops are in excellent condition with no cracking of the glass.

The original case is included and that, too, is in excellent condition. The exterior, of course, is worn in places but it is solid and the chrome is unblemished.

The keyboard is a QWERTZ layout and the typeface is pica (10 cpi). It comes with a new, biclour ribbon from Baco Ribbons.
