Halda Model P 1952

Halda Model P 1952

€ 960,00Prijs

A unique piece of travel and typewriter history, this Halda Model P was originally sold in Nairobi to a British family with homes in London and a farm in Kenya. They fled Kenya during the Mau Mau Rebellion. Comes complete with hard case (with original key) that has been specially reinforced, for African conditions, on the corners with unusually thick leather. It can go anywhere and already has travelled many miles. These Halda typewriters are justly renowned for the wonderful feel of their typing action and for the beauty and simplicity of the design--not to mention the rich green textured finish.

This is truly a remarkable and extraordinary HALDA typewriter, in outstanding condition, fitted with a new platen roller and with hard case and with original metal ribbon spools. This typewriter is in perfect, original working condition. It has been serviced, adjusted and appropriately cleaned and lubricated. The cosmetic condition is superb. This typewriter is identical to the Halda typewriter that was known to have been owned and used by Ernest Hemingway, and another identical one is in the Victoria Museum in Australia.

This is a fully-working--as original--typewriter. The only thing that you have to do is sit down, put paper on the roller and start typing. This Halda comes with the "Acme" lead certification seal attached to the typewriter. This seal permanently identifies this typewriter as a genuine Acme-restored typewriter and provides for a 6-month warranty at no charge. (See below for details.) We guarantee safe delivery and provide careful and attentive after-purchase advice and assistance from the date of purchase to the end of eternity to ensure your full satisfaction. In terms of an investment, the Acme Seal proves that this machine was restored in 2021 by the Acme Type Machine Company. This can add value in the event that you wish to sell this typewriter in the future.

If you are looking for an example of the Halda Model P, this is your opportunity. It has everything: in perfect working order, professionally restored, excellent original cosmetic condition (body finish is completely original) and interesting provenance. As a typing machine it is in perfect mechanical condition. It is a pleasure to type with: smooth, soft, sure and solid. The condition of this typewriter is outstanding and all original. The finish of the body is in extraordinarily fine condition with no discolouration or fading of the green that one sometimes sees on these Haldas. The only tiny flaw in an otherwise perfect cosmetic condition is a nearly invisible line of wear on the frame under the spacebar. It is hard to distinguish that it even exists.

This machine was manufactured in 1952. The serial number is: P-23807. The Halda typewriter is one of the very few Swedish made typewriter brands and only around 100,000 of the model P's were ever produced. Their distinctive green colour is known throughout the "typewriter world" and they are respected for the quality of the mechanics and of the overall manufacture.

The typeface is Pica (10 cpi) and this typewriter has been outfitted with a new "Acme Signature" blue ribbon. It comes with its two original metal spools. The keyboard is QWERTY. This is the original keyboard configuration; it has not been modified in any way. (Halda hunters will know that many Haldas have Scandinavian keyboards with the unhandy placement of the period and comma, etc.)

As mentioned, the platen roller has been professionally renovated with new rubber by the most experienced rubber companies in the Netherlands. The paper feeder rollers are in excellent condition. The rubber footing around the baseplate of the typewriter is in perfectly soft and intact condition. The chrome is in perfect condition. One small lever shows the first signs of some fading, but besides that the chrome is perfect.

The original case is in fine condition however showing some minimal signs of wear. The hasp works well and the original key is present. The thick leather corner pieces are the result of fine craftsmanship and are beautifully installed with brass screws.
