Hermes Baby Typewriter 1954
Hermes is one of the most renowned brands and models of typewriter ever made, and this is a fine example of the "Baby" model, also known as the "Rocket", from 1954. This is the perfect portable typing machine, weighing only ~3.6kg/8 lbs! This typewriter is in fine condition, mechanically and cosmetically, and has been thoroughly cleaned, serviced, adjusted and aligned. It is a typing machine that is ready to work for another 60 years of typing service. And with its brilliant Hermes engineering, it does that with elegance, smoothness and solidity.
This Hermes has the sought-after, mid-century body styling of the models produced in the late 1940s through the 1950s. It retains the original, beautiful shop decal from Leipzig Company, a dealer in office machines in Delft, in the Netherlands. This Hermes typewriter comes, amazingly, with the original purchase receipt showing that it was sold to "The Noble Mister Nielsen" (translation from the Dutch), the original User Manual and typing key diagram. The honorific "The Noble" could apply to either someone of aristocratic lineage or to a very high office holder in the Dutch government.
Like all of our typewriters this is a fully-working typewriter. It comes with the "Acme" lead certification seal attached to the typewriter which permanently identifies it as a genuine Acme-restored typewriter and provides for a 6-month warranty. We guarantee safe delivery and provide careful and attentive after-purchase advice and assistance from the date of purchase to the end of eternity to ensure your full satisfaction. In terms of an investment, the Acme Seal proves that this machine was restored by the Acme Type Machine Company. This can add value in the event that you wish to sell this typewriter in the future.
Overall, this typewriter is in fine, original condition. The chrome parts are in top condition with no signs of corrosion. Some of the keys have some light fingernail scratching. Both platen roller knobs are solid and clean. The body finish is in wonderful condition with uniform colour. This typewriter is original and has not been over-painted or otherwise changed from its originally manufactured state.
Mechanically, it is in perfectly excellent working condition. The platen is smooth and clean and receives the imprint well. It is a little harder than ideal with a hardness measuring ~94 (Shore A scale; Ideal is 85 - 95)). The paper feeder rollers clean and soft. All mechanisms have been tested and adjusted and work like new. It comes with the original two metal ribbon spools and a blue "Acme Signature" ribbon. Everything on this typewriter is original to its manufacture and purchase except the new rubber feet on the base and the new ribbon.
The keyboard is a QWERTY keyboard (English language) with extra character keys for European languages. It has a strong typeface of Hermes Pica (10 characters per inch).
The case/cover is in beautiful condition both inside and out. The colour is uniform and unfaded however there is some light scratching on the edges. The interior is in excellent condition.
This fine example of a Hermes Baby will be packed and shipped with the greatest care to preserve its condition and beauty. We have a lot of experience in shipping typewriters and have an excellent track record for proper packing and safe delivery.
