Torpedo Model 18B 1956

This is an excellent example of a mid-century Torpedo, Model 18B, typewriter.  It is a solid work-horse, is in excellent condition cosmetically and in full working condition mechanically. It has been thoroughly restored, adjusted, aligned and lubricated. The typewriter has been outfitted with a new bi-colour ribbon and is ready for another 60 years of service. It has a lovely blue-gray colour combined with the sublime teal-blue keys.

This is a Model 18 "B" and therefore has the tabulator system. The Model 18B proved to be such a popular model typewriter, in so many ways, that it was produced under various brands (incl. Blue Bird and Remington) and sold throughout the world. The typing action is wonderfully fast and solid. 
This is a typewriter to use and treasure, something to pass along to the next generation. The body finish is in flawless condition (disregarding a superficial vertical scratch on the back panel). The keys and spacebar show no sign of wear or scratches. The chrome is in excellent condition with no signs of corrosion and only the lightest marks from use and age. 
Mechanically this typewriter is in top, fully working condition. All systems have been checked and adjusted or aligned as necessary. 
Regarding the rubber: Platen Roller is smooth and clean with a durometer reading slightly higher than ideal (96) however the results are good as seen from the typing sample. The Paper Feeder Rollers are soft and grip the paper well. They were a little harder than I would like so I retained the original feet but placed  new rubber pads over them.
Regarding the chrome: Excellent condition overall.
Regarding the Body and finish condition: Beautiful, uniform colour. One scratch on back panel.
Regarding the typing keys: uniform colour with no fingernail scratches or other blemishes
Based on the serial number (874694) this machine is from 1956. 
The typeface is a beautiful Elite (12 cpi). The keyboard is QWERTY. You can see in the photos an example of the crisp, clear and dark letters that this machine produces. 
Comes with the original soft case in excellent condition, in a lovely light blue colour. The interior is a sort of a blue plaid and is in excellent condition with no real signs of wear or usage and no tears. The case has some very minor signs of exterior wear. There is no key for the hasp. The zipper has separated in a couple of places but still zips shut. Even without the zipper this case closes and holds the typewriter by means of the latching flap.
This typewriter has been conserved to our highest standards. It has been fully serviced, adjusted and aligned, lubricated, cleaned inside and out, and is ready for some serious typing.
