It is in superb condition, mechanically and cosmetically, and has been thoroughly cleaned, serviced, adjusted and aligned. Once in a while, as I work on other sorts of typewriters I begin to wonder if Hermes typewriters are really the apex of typewriter design and construction, as so many believe. Then I sit down and work on one and I realize. . . they are, indeed, the finest all-around typewriter made. (In my humble opinion.) And, truth be told, I have one on my own office desk--not for show, but for USE! And, as you can imagine, I have my choice of any typewriter.
Overall, this Hermes is in exceptional condition. The cosmetic condition is excellent. The chrome and aluminum are in top condition with no signs of corrosion. The typing keys are clean and unmarked by use. Both platen roller knobs are absolutely solid.  
Mechanically, it is in superb working condition. The paper feeder rollers are in perfect condition and soft. The feet are in excellent condition, soft and still grip the desktop well. All mechanical devices have been checked and adjusted as necessary, and work as originally manufactured. Everything on this typewriter is original to its manufacture and original purchase.
The keyboard is QWERTY with extra character keys and accent keys for European languages. The typeface is a wonderfully clear and compact Hermes Elite with 12 characters to the inch.
