Hermes 3000 1968
This is a truly fine example of the HERMES 3000, a classic typewriter in every sense, and with the new platen-roller it is ready for many decades more use! All of the mechanical elements are in as-new condition. Not one screw had been touched since the time it left the Hermes factory until it arrived on the Acme workbench. It comes with the original User Manual and the two original Hermes cleaning brushes. It is, overall, in excellent condition cosmetically and has been thoroughly cleaned, inspected and has been outfitted with a new ribbon. The typeface is the rare and handsome Director Speciale.
This is a fully-working--as original--typewriter. The only thing that you have to do is sit down, put paper on the roller and start typing. This Hermes 3000 comes with the "Acme" lead certification seal attached to the typewriter under the keyboard. This seal permanently identifies this typewriter as a genuine Acme-restored typewriter and provides for a 6-month warranty at no charge. (See below for details.) We guarantee safe delivery and provide careful and attentive after-purchase advice and assistance from the date of purchase to the end of eternity to ensure your full satisfaction. In terms of an investment, the Acme Seal proves that this machine was restored in 2020 by the Acme Type Machine Company. This can add value in the event that you wish to sell this typewriter in the future.
This Hermes 3000 is the sort of typewriter that we always like to find, because no repairs had ever done to it, every aspect of this typewriter is just as it came from the factory (except for the replaced right side platen knob. What does that mean? It means that every screw was installed with the correct torque; it means that every tolerance between parts is exactly as the experts at the factory put it together. It means that no mechanical part is worn down, bent, adjusted or readjusted etc etc. This typewriter was so lightly used that in many areas the original lubrication components from the factory could be detected; they were neither dried out or used up. My restoration was what I call "soft". That does not mean that it was not thorough, it means that if a screw or bolt did not need to be removed, I did not touch it. This preserve the integrity of the original Hermes factory workmanship.
Cosmetically, this Hermes 3000 is in extraordinarily fine condition. The finish colour is uniform and entirely unblemished. The right-side platen roller knob has been replaced by me. The chrome and aluminium is all in perfect, unblemished condition.
Mechanically, this typewriter is working as if it had recently arrived from the factory. The tabulator system is in perfect working order with a sparkling red ribbon as is every other mechanical function. All the mechanical aspects have been inspected and no adjustments or alignments needed to be made. The platen roller, as noted, is new. It has been professionally restored by one of the oldest rubber factories in Holland. The typing keys are in pristine condition and the chrome pieces are all unblemished and shiny. The paper feed rollers are all soft and grip the paper well. The rubber feet are in excellent, nearly new condition and serve well to hold the typewriter to the desktop. The platen roller knobs are solid and strong.
This Hermes typewriter comes with the original User Manual (in Dutch) and the two original cleaning brushes.
The typeface/font is the rare Director Speciale. This is an Elite size typeface but with spacing of a Pica, so it is 10 characters per inch. The keyboard is an international English QWERTY and has accents for European languages. This typewriter comes with a new, two-colour ribbon so that you can start typing immediately and with pleasure.
Based on the serial number (33506273) this machine is from 1968.
This typewriter comes with the original hard case/cover which is in superb condition. The external metal parts are uncorroded and shiny, the handle is strong and the hasp is in good working order.
