Hermes 3000 1969
This is a wonderful and very interesting example of the HERMES 3000, a classic typewriter in every sense. This typewriter was used rarely after it was purchased. All of the mechanical elements are in as-new condition. Not one screw had been touched since the time it left the Hermes factory until it arrived on the Acme workbench. It comes with the original User Guide as well as the two original Hermes cleaning brushes, and the original Hermes-branded dust cover. It is in pristine condition cosmetically and has been thoroughly cleaned, inspected and has been outfitted with a new ribbon on two original metal ribbon spools. The typeface is the uncommon, but uncommonly elegant, Hermes Small Pica Classic.
This is a fully-working--as original--typewriter. The only thing that you have to do is sit down, put paper on the roller and start typing. This Hermes 3000 comes with the Acme lead seal attached to the base. This seal permanently identifies this typewriter as a genuine Acme-restored typewriter and provides for a 6-month warranty at no charge. (See below for details.) We provide careful and attentive after-purchase advice and assistance from the date of purchase to the end of eternity to ensure your full satisfaction. This Hermes typewriter was originally purchased by a Dutch woman living just north of Amsterdam, who worked in the advertising business. It was bought as a typewriter for at-home use but was rarely used--and perfectly cared for.
This Hermes 3000 is a very exciting find. Because no repairs, no maintenance, no anything was ever done to it, every single aspect of this typewriter is just as it came from the factory. What does that mean? It means that every screw was installed with the correct torque; it means that every tolerance between parts is exactly as the experts at the factory put it together. It means that no mechanical part is worn down, bent, adjusted or readjusted etc etc. This typewriter was so lightly used that in many areas the original lubrication components from the factory could be detected; they were neither dried out or used up. My restoration was what I call "soft". That does not mean that it was not thorough, it means that if a screw or bolt did not need to be removed, I did not touch it. This preserve the integrity of the original Hermes factory workmanship.
Cosmetically, this Hermes 3000 is in extraordinarily fine condition. The finish colour is uniform and entirely unblemished. The chrome and aluminium is all in perfect, unblemished condition.
Mechanically, this typewriter is working as if it had recently arrived from the factory. The tabulator system is in perfect working order with a sparkling red ribbon as is every other mechanical function. The carriage glides as if on a cushion of gentle air. All the mechanical aspects have been inspected and no adjustments or alignments needed to be made. The platen roller is clean and smooth and has a nice softness measurement of around 93 (85 to 95 considered ideal. The typing keys are in pristine condition and the chrome pieces are all unblemished and shiny. The paper feed rollers are all soft and grip the paper well. The rubber feet are in excellent, new-like condition and serve well to hold the typewriter to the desktop. The platen roller knobs are solid and strong.
This Hermes typewriter comes with the original User Guide (in Dutch), the two original cleaning brushes., original Hermes-branded dust-cover and two original metal ribbon spools.
The typeface/font, as mentioned, is a beautiful Hermes Small Pica Classic (10 c.p.i.). The keyboard is an original QWERTY and has accents for European languages . This typewriter comes with a new, two-colour ribbon so that you can start typing immediately and with pleasure.
Based on the serial number (3557509) this machine is from 1969, the last year for production of this classic Hermes 3000 body style.
This typewriter comes with the original hard case/cover which is in superb condition. The external metal parts are uncorroded and shiny, the handle is strong and the hasp is in good working order. There is a single scratch on the interior but for the rest is entirely unblemished, inside and outside. The original key is present.
