Aztec Typewriter, Original Colours, Model 500, 1962
A wonderful example of the AZTEC 500 typewriter in original colours of cream and black with black keys, from 1962. Comes complete with original case, a BACO, two-colour ribbon has been installed. In excellent condition cosmetically and mechanically. It has been fully refurbished, adjusted, cleaned and aligned.
The AZTEC 500, a rebranded version of the Erika Model 12, is not common and is sought-after by collectors and typists alike. This is the "Pullman" model which has a small lever on the right which allows the ribbon cover to raise gently for ribbon replacement, cleaning, inspection, for removing the typewriter from the base, etc.
The styling is sublime, the typing action is springy and fast, yet solid to the touch. This particular typewriter is an example of a two-tone in cream and black colour.
It has a QWERTZ keyboard and the typeface is a beautiful Erika Pica (10 cpi). It has a new, two-colour BACO ribbon (the choice of discerning collectors) and is ready to type. It comes with one original metal ribbon spool.
This typewriter comes with its User Manual.
Overall, the typewriter is in wonderful condition, both mechanically and cosmetically. All keys type as new, the platen-roller is clean, undamaged and still usably soft. It has a durometer reading of 93 (Shore A scale). The Chrome is in very good condition although showing some signs of light wear. All levers and buttons work as original. The rubber feet are in excellent and soft condition, as are the paper feeder rollers.
It has been carefully serviced and tested, and fully cleaned. Cosmetically, this typewriter is in great condition. Here and there you can see some wear on the black finish that is not easily visible in the photos. But if you get it into the right light and angle your head "just so" you can see signs of light wear. Behind the carriage release lever on the right side there are a couple of tiny spots of paint loss, as also under the carriage on the top of the back panel. Along the top crease of the back panel, where the Paper Holder goes in and out there are a couple of other spots of wear. This AZTEC 500 comes with the original soft case. The case is in very fine condition, inside and outside. There is a small separation of the interior cloth lining from the case on one corner. It is missing the key.
