Halda Model P Typewriter in Exceptionally Fine Condition (1952)

This fine and rather scarce Halda typewriter is distinguished by its exceptional state of preservation—for both the typewriter and the carrying case. Its original forest-green “crinkle” finish retains remarkable depth and uniformity. The chrome fittings are equally well preserved and the keytops are bright and shiny as if fresh from the factory. It comes with its two original metal ribbon spools which are critical for proper operation. This Halda was found outside of Düsseldorf in a barn (yes, it’s a “barn find”) on a large estate there. Other details of its provenance are unknown.
A few things make this particular Model P extraordinary:
—The typing action is a perfect representation of the Halda's renowned "touch".  It feels "straight from the factory".
—There is virtually no wear or other signs of use anywhere on the body. And if you know Model P's, you will note with surprise that there is no paint loss on the body under the spacebar, something found on nearly every Model P. 
—The bronze nameplate on the back panel (Facit GMBH, Düsseldorf) is unique in my experience of restorations of more than 50 Haldas.
A Halda Model P typewriter is known to have been owned and used by Ernest Hemingway and an example is in the Victoria Museum in Australia among other museum collections.
Introduced in 1951, the Model P was a brilliant expression of Swedish industrial design. Its compact form was created by the distinguished Swedish architect and furniture designer Carl Malmsten. The low, clean body, deep green finish, restrained chrome detailing, and narrow red line surrounding the ribbon cover give the machine a character that is functional without austerity and decorative without excess.
The Model P is valued by typists for a touch quite different from the firmer action of many German portables. Its well separated keytops offer a measured degree of resistance at the fingertips, followed by a light and unusually effortless downward movement. The mechanism feels substantial rather than delicate, yet never heavy: the keystroke is soft, controlled, and quiet, with a solidity that encourages an even pace over extended writing. Owners frequently identify this balance—weight without fatigue, lightness without flimsiness—as one of the Halda’s most appealing qualities.
It has been fully restored and adjusted to its original mechanical standard. The mechanisms have been carefully cleaned, adjusted, and lubricated. It bears the permanent Acme Seal, identifying restoration within our workshop and providing enduring provenance.
The original hard case is in excellent condition, with almost no signs of wear, externally or internally. It comes with the original key. The leather handle is intact and solid and sturdy.
