The "Blue Bird" version of the Model 18 is a mid-century variant of the Torpedo Model 18, produced for international distribution under alternate branding. Known for its robust construction and refined mechanical design, the Model 18 occupies a central place in European desktop typewriter manufacture.
Many typewriter aficionados speak extremely highly of the typing "feel" of the Model 18 and rank it with the better-known Hermes 3000.
This example retains its original two-tone blue and grey finish, paired with silver keys. The paintwork is original and unaltered. The machine has been professionally restored, preserving original materials and operating characteristics. The typing action is gentle and responsive, with consistent performance across the keyboard.
The keyboard is QWERTY with European accent keys. The machine types in Pica and is fitted with a fresh ribbon.
