Erika Model M with QWERTY keyboard 1939

This is a very interesting example of an Erika Model "M" typewriter.  It was discovered in Spain and is fascinating in that it was produced at the beginning of 1939, just after the Spanish Civil War and just prior to the outbreak of World War II. Unusually, this typewriter is QWERTY--very rare in the Model M.
The M stands for "Meisterklasse" and indeed the Model M is the expression of a "master-class" in typewriter design and function. The Model M is one of the most highly and successfully engineered typing machines from the mid 20th century. The tab and margin keys (for changing, setting and removing) are on the sides of the spacebar. The typing action is swift and light. There is the possibility of line-spacing from 1 to 4 lines. It is capable of "sperrschrift" which is the action of a double space between each typed letter. 
This typewriter has been fully serviced, adjusted and cleaned and is ready for use. I have installed a new platen which will make typing a real pleasure. 
The body of the typewriter shows signs of its age and use most notably in some light corrosion on the chrome pieces in various places, and small chips of paint loss. The paint finish is entirely original. Please review the photos carefully.
