Hispano-Olivetti 1942

€695.00Price

This is a fine example of the renowned Hispano-Olivetti Studio 46 from the middle of the war-time years, 1942. It is fully working and looking lovely. It has been fully professionally refurbished: cleaned, serviced, adjusted and aligned--and outfitted with a new, vintage Olivetti ribbon on two original metal spools. It comes with the two original cleaning brushes. This typewriter has a cool, modern styling although it is more than 75 years old. The Studio 46 model has a tabulator system.

This Hispano-Olivetti typewriter comes with a 3-month mechanical guarantee and will be shipped, including full insurance, at no additional cost.  Please note that this typewriter will be shipped to the purchaser on January 2/3 due to Christmas holidays.

This typewriter is in overall very fine cosmetic condition. The colour is hard to describe but is sort of a mix between sage-green and dove-gray. The chrome and aluminium pieces are in excellent condition. The body finish is just perfect, although one sees in the photos that there is some minor paint loss on the space-bar and some on the left hand platen-roller knob--also a couple of tiny chips off the right-hand knob. Beyond that, it is in lovely condition. (Note: If the purchaser wishes to have it done, I can re-touch the paint on the spacebar and the platen knob. I generally prefer not to do that on an exceptionally fine vintage machine like this, but I work with my clients and am happy to oblige.)

Mechanically, this Studio 46 works just great. I have gone over everything and brought it back to full and proper working order. The rubber on the platen roller is clean, soft and smooth. The hardness of the platen roller is a usable 96 on the Shore A durometer scale (Ideal durometer reading is argued, but ranges between 85 and 95). Take a look at the typing sample and you can see that the imprint is quite fine. The paper feeder rollers are soft and grip the paper well although they have some wear. The rubber feet are soft and hold the typewriter to the desk. Overall the body finish is nice, clean and shiny with a uniformity of colour and finish.

The hard case is a joy unto itself! The styling is so retro; the colouring so fine. I love the stripes. The exterior has some signs of age, of course (I mean, 75 years of protective service, a World War and all...), but nothing serious. The interior has a watered silk lining that is still in quite fine condition. All the metal bits are in good condition. The leather handle is strong and handsome but it does have a split in the leather. The chrome on the latch and the handle is shiny and bright but is very lightly showing signs of age. The key has been lost.

This typewriter is ready to type for another 75 years. The typeface is the Olivetti Universal Pica (10 cpi) and it has a new, vintage Olivetti two-colour ribbon and two vintage metal ribbon spools.

Based on the serial number (557668) this machine is from 1942.

(Note to Interior Designers and Film Set Decorators (where colour is critical): I have made every attempt to represent the precise hue of the typewriter but, as you know, that is quite difficult. If you would like other photos or to discuss the matter, please contact me.)

This nice example of a HISPANO-OLIVETTI Studio 46 will be packed and shipped with the greatest care to preserve its condition and beauty. We have a lot of experience in shipping typewriters and have an excellent track record for proper packing and safe delivery. It will be fully insured for shipment.

This typewriter has been conserved to our highest standards. It has been fully serviced, adjusted and aligned, lubricated, cleaned inside and out, and is ready for some serious typing.
