Adler Model 32-S 1946
This is a fine and rare typewriter, a wonderful feeling typer, from just after the Second World War. Manufactured in Germany by the Adler company, the Model 32 was a relatively popular model until production ceased during the war. When production began again in 1946, Adler decided to add a tabulator system to the popular Model 32 and produced the Model 32-S. The effort was limited to only a year when they chose to discontinue the model in favour of newer designs to satisfy the post-war market.
This is an excellent example of the Model 32-S typewriter and, because of its rarity, perhaps the only example remaining. This one is in very nice cosmetic condition and it is working beautifully. It comes from the estate of a military-related family in the Netherlands. On the side is a sticker of the Koninklijke Landmacht which means "Royal Army" in Dutch. (This can be removed by us at the request of the buyer.) It has been outfitted with a new bi-colour ribbon so you can start typing immediately. This typewriter comes with the original Triumph-branded brush and polishing cloth, original factory typing test and User Manual and the original key for the case in its paper envelope.
This is a fully-working--as original--typewriter. It has been fully serviced, completely cleaned, aligned, adjusted and lubricated for years of good service. The only thing that you have to do is sit down, put paper on the roller and start typing. This Adler comes with the "Acme" lead certification seal attached to the typewriter under the keyboard. This seal permanently identifies this typewriter as a genuine Acme-restored typewriter and provides for a 6-month warranty at no charge. (See below for details.) We guarantee safe delivery and provide careful and attentive after-purchase advice and assistance from the date of purchase to the end of eternity to ensure your full satisfaction. In terms of an investment, the Acme Seal proves that this machine was restored in 2021 by the Acme Type Machine Company. This can add value in the event that you wish to sell this typewriter in the future. And the fact that this has a new platen adds even more value.
The platen roller is in absolutely excellent condition, smooth and clean, with a hardness rating of ~89 (Durometer, Shore A scale; 85-95 being the ideal range). The paper feed rollers are in fine condition and grip the paper well. The rubber feet are still in fine condition and soft, holding the typewriter well to the desktop. The chrome is in fine condition except for the carriage return lever which shows some corrosion. The painted finish is in excellent condition. The upper portion of the typewriter is made from bakelite, which is solid and intact (!). It comes with two metal ribbon spools of the same vintage as the typewriter. There is some usage wear to the painted finish visible mostly on the frame to the left and right of the keyboard.
The typeface is Pica and the keyboard is QWERTY with accents for European languages. A new bi-colour ribbon has been installed. Please note that the typing sample shows some "smudging". This is due to the fact that the ribbon has been heavily inked. After a few weeks in the air and some use, this will disappear. With the heavy inking this ribbon should last an extra long time. The typing keys have some wear on the chrome parts
Based on the serial number (629546) this machine was manufactured in 1946.
