Olympia Elite 1949
This is a superb example of a postwar OLYMPIA Elite typewriter, in black enamel finish with black bakelite keys. It is in excellent condition mechanically and cosmetically. It has been fully refurbished: serviced, cleaned, aligned and adjusted. The typewriter is completely original in all parts, has not been repainted and no decals have been replaced. This is a very handsome typewriter in simply beautiful condition!
NOTE: This typewriter comes with an "Acme" lead seal attached by us to the base of the typewriter under the keyboard. This seal permanently identifies this typewriter as a genuine Acme-restored typewriter and provides for lifetime servicing at no charge.
The Olympia Elite model typewriter was the immediate precursor of the well-respected. Olympia model SM3 and SM4. The tabs are set by the key to the left of the spacebar and removed using a lever at the rear.
Cosmetically this typewriter is in top condition. The only scratches to the finish are on the lower back panel where the typewriter connected to the (now lost) case and directly beneath the centre of the spacebar. Otherwise, as you can see from the photos, the body finish is spectacularly shiny and wholly unblemished. (Due to the shininess of this typewriter the photos were hard to take. Many of them show my own reflection in the typewriter or the reflection of the painting above it. Please be assured that the finish is a high gloss, deep black colour.) The keys are unscratched and all the chrome is in very fine condition. (The smudges on the chrome in the photo are a result of my dirty fingers.)
Mechanically, it is working perfectly. It has a lovely typing feel, and everything works smoothly and properly. The platen is clean, smooth and soft with a hardness measurement (durometer, Shore A scale) of around 92. This is well within the range for ideal typing (~85 to ~95). The Paper Feed Rollers are soft and grip the paper well, and the rubber feet are strong and soft, gripping the desktop well.
This Olympia Elite has been fully cleaned and serviced, inside and out, and is in excellent cosmetic condition and working correctly. All keys type as smoothly as when this typewriter was new. The chrome is in excellent condition, all levers and functions work as originally. Both platen roller knobs are in perfect condition.
This Olympia Elite has an international QWERTY keyboard with symbols for all accents needed for French, German etc. The typeface/font is Pica (10 cpi). Please note: Due to the shipping difficulties associated with the Corona-virus situation, I am waiting for a bulk shipment of ribbons. Therefore, I do not have on hand any two-colour ribbons and have outfitted this typewriter with a new black ribbon. With a two-colour ribbon it can type in either colour with a movement of the lever to the right of the keyboard.
Based on the serial number (652024) this machine is from 1949.
