Hermes Media Typewriter, 1954

This is a fine and beautiful HERMES Media typewriter from 1954. This model has a wonderful, compact typing feel and is "easy on the fingers". Hermes is perhaps the most renowned brand of typewriter ever made and this one is in near perfect condition, mechanically and cosmetically, and has been thoroughly cleaned, serviced, adjusted and aligned. The platen has been reconditioned and it has been fitted with a new ribbon so you can start typing immediately. This is a typing machine that is ready to work for many decades of enjoyable typing service. And with its brilliant Hermes engineering, it does that with elegance, smoothness and solidity.
Overall, this Hermes is in exceptional condition. The cosmetic condition is excellent. The chrome and aluminum are in top condition with no signs of corrosion.  Both platen roller knobs are absolutely solid.  Mechanically, it is in top working condition. The paper feeder rollers are in perfect condition and soft. The feet are in excellent condition, soft and still grip the desktop well. All mechanical devices (including, but not exclusive of, the ribbon colour selection mechanism, ribbon advance and reverse mechanisms, margin release, etc.) have been checked and adjusted as necessary, and work as originally manufactured. Everything on this typewriter is original to its manufacture and original purchase.
The case/cover is in excellent condition. Most of the Hermes cases one finds from this era have significant external blemishes—this one does not. It is in nearly perfect condition with the exception of some light discolouration.
The keyboard is QWERTY with extra character keys and accent keys for European languages. The typeface is a wonderfully clear and compact Hermes Elite with 11.2 characters to the inch.
