SORRY SOLD! 1955 Halda Model P Typewriter — With NEW PLATEN
One of the most sought-after typewriters for many collectors and users, the Model P is justly held high in the pantheon of great mid-century typing machines. It represents an unusually fine combination of elegant design, rich colour, unusual rarity, exceptional utility and excellence in manufacture. This particular typewriter is a fine example of the Model P, and has a new platen—which any typewriter enthusiast will tell you is a pleasure and a joy.
This Halda was owned by the same family, involved with the production of cheese in Gouda, since it was new.
This Halda is, of course, in excellent working condition and the cosmetic condition is equally fine. It has been serviced, adjusted and properly cleaned and lubricated. The typeface is a handsome Elite (11 characters to the inch). The typewriter has been outfitted with a new ribbon on its two original metal spools. The QWERTY keyboard has extra keys for European languages.
Whether you want this Halda as an investment or as a daily-use typing machine, It has everything: in fine working order, professionally reconditioned and excellent original cosmetic condition. It is a pleasure to type with: smooth, soft, sure and solid.
Acme has, we believe, restored and repaired more Haldas, in the modern era, than any other restorer and has advised Halda owners/restorers around the world. These are difficult machines to work on so please beware if you are searching for a Halda and discover one that you think is a "real find!". Some adjustments that are simple on most typewriters can be very difficult to achieve on a Halda--and therefore quite expensive when you take it to your local repair-person. And note that if the original ribbon spools are not with the typewriter it will not work correctly.
A Halda typewriter is known to have been owned and used by Ernest Hemingway and one example is in the Victoria Museum in Australia among other museum collections. These Halda typewriters are justly renowned for the wonderful feel of their typing action and for the beauty and simplicity of the design--not to mention the rich green textured finish.
The platen roller, as mentioned, has new rubber, and the paper feeder rollers are in excellent condition. The rubber footing around the baseplate of the typewriter (often hard and dried) is in excellent, soft condition to grip the desk well.. The chrome is in superb condition.
