Olympia SM3 1955

€420.00Price

This is a wonderful example of an early, OLYMPIA SM3 typewriter, with sage-green body colour, from 1955. This typewriter is in excellent condition mechanically and cosmetically, with a platen roller in like-new condition. It has a textured sage-green body finish. This machine was well maintained and cared-for during the years. In our workshop it has undergone a complete servicing, adjustment, alignment, lubrication and cleaning. It comes with a new two-colour Baco ribbon (the choice of many serious typewriter collectors).

The SM3 model, compared with the SM2, has the tabulator system for typing in columns or for making indentations with ease.

This is a fully-working--as original--typewriter. The only thing that you have to do is sit down, put paper on the roller and start typing. It comes with the Acme seal and a full mechanical warranty for 6 months. We guarantee safe delivery and provide careful and attentive after-purchase advice and assistance from the date of purchase to the end of eternity to ensure your full satisfaction. We have shipped safely to the outback of Australia, the Sultanate of Brunei, Japan, China, Dayton Ohio, the Isle of Wight, Ecuador and hundreds of places in between. So have no fear.

This SM3 is in wonderful cosmetic condition and working as originally. The body has no dents, scratches or discolouration. The platen roller is in like-new condition, probably having been replaced shortly before this typewriter was retired to the closet. The hardness reading is 88 (Shore A scale--Ideal hardness is between 85 and 95). It is clean and smooth and receives the type perfectly (see sample). The paper feeder rollers are in fine condition as is the rubber on the feet, which grip the desk well. The chrome is all unblemished and in top condition.

The keyboard is international QWERTY (US/UK standard) and has accents for major foreign languages. The typeface is Olympia's Elite (11.5 cpi). It comes with a new two-colour Baco ribbon (the choice of many serious typewriter collectors).

The typing action is wonderfully smooth and solid. This machine really hums. This SM3 proves the notion that Olympia typewriters are some of the finest typing machines ever made. This is a typewriter to use and treasure, something to pass along to the next generation. Really a marvelous machine in wonderful condition.

Comes with the original "Streamliner" hard case which is in good, solid condition but with some paint flaking on the exterior. The exterior chrome is in beautiful condition as is the hasp and the handle. It is a good, solid case overall, despite its cosmetic flaws.

Based on the serial number (607555) this machine is from 1955.

This fine example of an OLYMPIA SM3 will be packed and shipped with the greatest care to preserve its condition and beauty. We have a lot of experience in shipping typewriters and have an excellent track record for proper packing and safe delivery. It will be fully insured for shipment.

If you are shopping for a typewriter, please note that the Platen (the black, rubber-covered roller on which the paper is wound and which receives the strike of the metal key to imprint the letter) is one of the most important elements for the enjoyable use of your typewriter and for making a correct imprint on the paper. Over time, the rubber becomes hard. This hardness results in an unpleasant, loud clatter as you type, a harder shock to your finger bones, and a faulty imprint of the letter on the paper. In the glory days of typing, platens would be replaced every few years, just like replacing the tires on your car. The typical cost for a new platen is around 125$, not including labour costs. If you are spending hundreds of dollars on a typewriter, take the time to ask the seller about the platen. Ask the seller what is the hardness measurement of the platen. It should be between 85 and 95. Most dealers simply clean off the platen and don't mention the hardness in their description. At Acme we install new platens, at no extra cost, on any typewriter that needs one in order to ensure the best typing experience and the best, decades-long operation of your typewriter.

Notes on the 6-month Mechanical Warranty: Should anything require repair on the typewriter the Acme Type Machine Company (an established company in the Netherlands with Chamber of Commerce registration 74166247) will repair it free of charge when shipped to our workshop. Due to the costs of shipping and the possibilities therein for damage during the shipping process we will work with you to make any required adjustments or repairs at home prior to taking the step to ship it to our workshop in Holland. Should it be preferable due to costs involved, we will also discuss the possibility of bringing it to a local professional typewriter repair service to make the necessary repairs.
The warranty does not cover damage due to mishandling, incorrect use or dropping the typewriter, or for ordinary typewriter maintenance such as ribbon changing, platen roller renovation, character adjustment due to extensive use etc.
