Halda Model P 1956
This is a 1956 HALDA, Model "P", portable typewriter in excellent condition with hard case and original metal ribbon spools. This typewriter is in perfect, original working condition. It has been serviced, adjusted and appropriately cleaned and lubricated. The cosmetic condition is excellent. The platen rubber is in superb condition having been recently replaced.
This Halda has a typeface that is uncommon among Haldas: Congress Elite (11 cpi). I have not seen this before on a Halda and it makes this machine very special. As a typing machine it is in perfect mechanical condition. It is a pleasure to type with: smooth, soft, sure and solid. A joy to type on and a pleasure to look at.
This Halda will be shipped to the buyer without additional charge and fully insured. It comes with a 3-month full mechancial guarantee so you can be sure that you will receive and enjoy a fully working typewriter.
The condition is wonderful overall and all original. The finish of the body is excellent condition with no discolouration or fading of the green that one sometimes sees on these Haldas. The only tiny flaw in an otherwise perfect cosmetic condition is a vertical wear-mark that can be seen on the front of the typewriter below the space-bar, and a minor point of paint-loss in the red strip just above the margin release button. Both are unobtrusive and difficult to notice "in real life". The chrome pieces are all unblemished. The keytops shows some signs of fingernail scratching but that is relatively light and difficult to see.
As noted, the typeface is Congress Elite (11 cpi) and this typewriter has been outfitted with a new, two-colour ribbon. It comes with its two original metal spools in fine condition. The metal spools are in perfect working condition--a very important consideration if you have ever tried to find spools for a Halda Model P.
The keyboard is US/UK QWERTY. This is the original keyboard configuration; it has not been modified in any way. This is NOT the Swedish QWERTY keyboard that has the unhandy placement of Swedish letters where the period and comma normally are. The keyboard has the "@" key among other useful symbols.
The platen, as mentioned, is in extraordinarily good condition and has a durometer reading of 90-91 (Shore A measurement). This measurement is similar to a new platen, however, if you wish to have this typewriter with a renovated platen, that is possible. Contact me for details. The paper feed rollers are in fine, pliable condition. The rubber on the base is soft and undamaged.
The case is not in the best condition. Although generally still strong and solid, the external cover shows a lot of wear. The base of the cover is in rather poor condition with loss of the cover and some rusting of the feet. Internally, it is generally clean and in good condition however there is an area of discolouration under where the typewriter stands. The leather of the handle is intact and is strong, solid and usable.. The hasp and lock work well. It is, though, missing the key.
This machine was manufactured in 1956. The serial number is: P-84146.
