Hermes 2000 1956
This is an extraordinarily fine example of the HERMES 2000, a classic typewriter, in the classic green colours! This is a superb, well-maintained machine from 1956 with a newly renovated platen roller. It is in top condition, mechanically and cosmetically, has been thoroughly cleaned, serviced, adjusted and aligned and has been outfitted with a new Acme Signature Blue ribbon. It comes with the original User Manual, Hermes-branded brush and the two original metal ribbon spools. I am certain that you will not find a Hermes 2000 in this condition outside of a very few specialist collections.
You have to type on this machine to experience how beautifully these Hermes 2000's respond to a typist's fingers. As soft as butter and as smooth as silk. The 2000 has long been overshadowed by the well-known Hermes 3000, but I believe unjustly so. It has a less heavy feel and a more traditional look than the early model Hermes 3000's. The 2000 is a more difficult typewriter to find especially in the iconic "sea-foam green" colour.
This is a fully-working--as original--typewriter. The only thing that you have to do is sit down, put paper on the roller and start typing. This Hermes typewriter comes with the "Acme" lead certification seal attached to the typewriter under the keyboard. This seal permanently identifies this typewriter as a genuine Acme-restored typewriter and provides for a 6-month warranty at no charge. (See below for details.) We guarantee safe delivery and provide careful and attentive after-purchase advice and assistance from the date of purchase to the end of eternity to ensure your full satisfaction. In terms of an investment, the Acme Seal proves that this machine was restored in 2020 by the Acme Type Machine Company. This can add value in the event that you wish to sell this typewriter in the future.
Cosmetically, this Hermes 2000 is in outstanding condition. The finish colour is uniform and entirely unblemished except for a tiny scratch on the upper edge of the right rear body. The chrome and aluminium are all in excellent nearly new condition.
Mechanically, this typewriter is working as originally manufactured. The tabulator system is in good working order as is every other mechanical function. All the mechanical aspects have been checked and properly adjusted and aligned. The platen roller, as noted, is new. It has been professionally restored by one of the oldest rubber factories in Holland. The typing keys are in excellent condition without any fingernail scratching or other blemish. The paper feed rollers are all soft, smooth and grip the paper well. The rubber feet have been replaced and hold the typewriter to the desktop. The platen roller knobs are solid and strong and in perfect condition.
The typeface/font is a beautiful Hermes Pica (10 cpi). The keyboard is an original English QWERTY and has the coveted "@" symbol among other symbols. This typewriter comes, as mentioned, with a new ribbon so that you can start typing immediately and with pleasure. The ribbon is held by two, original metal ribbon spools.
Based on the serial number (2146851) this machine is from 1956.

https://typewriterreview.com/2017/05/01/hermes-2000/This typewriter comes with the original green case which is in excellent condition. Internally, the silk lining is in fine condition with only the smallest tear in one corner and some discolouration on the rear panel. The external metal hasp is somewhat corroded but the handle is strong and the hasp is in good working order. There is some cracking on the closure band but this has been strengthened during restoration.
If you are shopping for a typewriter, please note that the Platen (the black, rubber-covered roller on which the paper is wound and which receives the strike of the metal key to imprint the letter) is one of the most important elements for the enjoyable use of your typewriter and for making a correct imprint on the paper. Over time, the rubber becomes hard. This hardness results in an unpleasant, loud clatter as you type, a harder shock to your finger bones, and a faulty imprint of the letter on the paper. In the glory days of typing, platens would be replaced every few years, just like replacing the tires on your car. The typical cost for a new platen is around 125$, not including labour costs. If you are spending hundreds of dollars on a typewriter, take the time to ask the seller about the platen. Ask the seller what is the hardness measurement of the platen. It should be between 85 and 95. Most dealers simply clean off the platen and don't mention the hardness in their description. At Acme we install new platens, at no extra cost, on any typewriter that needs one in order to ensure the best typing experience and the best, decades-long operation of your typewriter.
