SORRY, SOLD! 1958 Olympia SM4
The "Black Jack" typewriter. A mint condition OLYMPIA SM4 DeLuxe typewriter manufactured in 1958. It is in superb condition in every way and has been professionally serviced, aligned and adjusted. The platen roller has been refurbished with new rubber by one of the oldest factories in Europe. It has a new two-colour ribbon with two original metal ribbon spools and comes with a hard case, also in superb condition, the original User Manual, Factory Certificate of Final Test and Inspection, and the original Olympia cleaning brush.
This is an absolutely extraordinary typewriter the likes of which may not be found again. The name is derived, of course, from the deep-black colour of the typewriter; a colour like that of a moonless night sky. It was produced during the first year of production of the SM4 model-line. With a rich-black body and glossy-black keys, it has an elegant and profound presence on your desk or in your office. This colour combination in early Olympias is not common and to find one in this condition after 62 years is akin to a miracle. This typewriter is truly a "statement" on the desk of any serious screenwriter, journalist, novelist or even the occasional letter-writer. It is an extraordinary writing instrument for an extraordinary person.
This is a fully-working--as original--typewriter. The only thing that you have to do is sit down, put paper on the roller and start typing. It comes with the Acme seal and a full mechanical warranty for 6 months. We guarantee safe delivery and provide careful and attentive after-purchase advice and assistance from the date of purchase to the end of eternity to ensure your full satisfaction. We have shipped safely to the outback of Australia, the Sultanate of Brunei, Japan, China, Dayton Ohio, the Isle of Wight, Ecuador and hundreds of places in between. So have no fear.
For many, the Olympia SM4 is considered to be the "King of the Typewriters". It is one of the most well-engineered, solid, durable and usable typewriter models ever manufactured. The SM series of typewriters from the Olympia factories in Germany are considered by many to be the "gold-standard" of what a modern portable typewriter should be. The SM4 is probably the pinnacle of that technical excellence and engineering brilliance among the SM models. It is perfect for a fast typer, or a slower one.
The keyboard is standard US/UK (QWERTY), and the typeface is Olympia's Elite #8 (11 c.p.i.). The keyboard has the all-important "@" key.
Regarding the rubber: Platen Roller is newly refurbished. The Paper Feeder Rollers are smooth and soft. The Feet are clean and soft like new.
Regarding the chrome: Perfect. Ni discernible signs of use or wear.
Regarding the Body condition: No blemishes or fading anywhere.
Regarding the mechanical condition: Working perfectly, as originally manufactured.
Comes with the original case which is in excellent condition inside and outside. Based on the serial number (1330574) this machine was manufactured in 1958, the first year of production for the SM4.

Notes on the 6-month Mechanical Warranty: Should anything require repair on the typewriter the Acme Type Machine Company (an established company in the Netherlands with Chamber of Commerce registration 74166247) will repair it free of charge when shipped to our workshop. Due to the costs of shipping and the possibilities therein for damage during the shipping process we will work with you to make any required adjustments or repairs at home prior to taking the step to ship it to our workshop in Holland.
