This is a near mint condition, 1958, OLYMPIA SM4 DeLuxe typewriter, in Sage-Green colour with green accents. It is in absolutely superb condition in every way. It has been fully serviced, aligned and adjusted. This typewriter has a recently renovated platen roller (durometer reading of 90--Shore A scale) so the typing is clean and clear and soft. It has a new two-colour ribbon on two original metal ribbon spools and comes with a hard case in near-perfect condition and the original Olympia cleaning brush.

The colour on this SM4 is a sage-green with the very deep green keys and platen roller knobs that I call forest-green. It is a very handsome combination.

For many, the Olympia SM4 is the king of the typewriters. It is one of the most well-engineered, solid, durable and usable desktop typewriter models ever manufactured. It is perfect for a fast typer, or a slower one. This typewriter was originally purchased at Kidds, a London-based, high-end, office furnishings shop. The original Kidds decal is on the top of the ribbon cover.

The keyboard is standard US/UK (QWERTY), and the typeface is Olympia's Elite #3 (11 c.p.i.). This is a truly handsome and serious typeface.The keyboard has the all-important "@" key.

Regarding the rubber: Platen Roller was recently renovated. The Paper Feeder Rollers are new-like and soft. The Feet are new-like and soft.
Regarding the chrome: Perfect except for some light wear on top of the right carriage release lever.
Regarding the Body condition: No blemishes or fading anywhere.
Regarding the mechanical condition: Working perfectly, as originally manufactured.

Comes with the original case which, too, is in excellent condition inside and outside. There are only the tiniest signs of wear on the outside of the case. The interior has minor marks where the typewriter feet have sat for decades and some slight discolouration. The original Olympia branded cleaning brush is included.

The SM series of typewriters from the Olympia factories in Germany are considered by many to be the "gold-standard" of what a modern desktop typewriter should be. The SM4 is probably the pinnacle of that technical excellence and engineering brilliance among the SM models.

This typewriter really proves the notion that Olympia typewriters are some of the finest typing machines ever made. The typing action is wonderfully smooth and solid, swift and efficient.
