Olympia SM4 1959

I can imagine this typewriter in use at some extremely exclusive Swiss spa or on the desk of the secretary to the Pope in Rome. Or in the home of some extremely hip, 1960s interior designer. The white colour on this beautiful machine just, to be honest, sort of blows my mind.
 This is a 1959, OLYMPIA SM4 DeLuxe typewriter, in a highly unusual white colour with forest-green keys and accents. It is in absolutely exceptional condition in every way. It has been fully serviced, aligned and adjusted. We have outfitted this SM4 with a newly renovated platen roller so the typing is clean and clear and soft. It has a new two-colour ribbon from BACO Ribbon Company in Missouri so you can start typing immediately. It comes with a hard case in excellent condition, the original Olympia cleaning brush and two original metal ribbon spools.

This is a rare find and a rare chance. Please note: Any appearance that the body finish has any disparities in colour is only a tribute to my poor photography skills rather than reality. The body colour is uniform and unblemished by sun or any other factors. This typewriter has been well-protected and extremely well cared-for during its lifetime. There are a very few and tiny scratches and signs of use but, overall, it is in exceptionally fine condition.
Based on the serial number (1422958) this machine was manufactured in 1959. When this typewriter was new, it sold for around 415 Dutch Guilders. In today's money that is the equivalent of around 1,350$. A very serious amount of money in 1959 for a very fine typewriter. 
The keyboard is standard US/UK (QWERTY) and has the "@" sign (important nowadays). The typeface is Olympia's "Elite #8" (11 c.p.i.) which is a very nice, elegant font.
Regarding the rubber: Platen Roller is new. The Paper Feeder Rollers are new-like and soft. The Feet are new-like and soft.
Regarding the chrome: Perfect.
Regarding the Body condition: Nearly Perfect. There are a few tiny spots on the upper back panel and on the back side of the right part of the ribbon cover. There are two small scratches on either side of the side-panels under the carriage rails (a result of the perennial disease of Olympias: the deterioration of the back support bushings (which have, of course, been replaced)).
It comes with the original case which is in excellent condition inside and outside. There are a couple of very minor blemishes on the outside of the case. The interior has minor marks where the typewriter feet have sat for decades and some light corrosion on the two metal pieces on the upper part. The original Olympia branded cleaning brush is included. The chrome on the two side pieces of the handle is somewhat corroded.
The SM series of typewriters from the Olympia factories in Germany are considered by many to be the "gold-standard" of what a modern desktop typewriter should be. The SM4 is probably the pinnacle of that technical excellence and engineering brilliance among the SM models.
This typewriter really proves the notion that Olympia typewriters are some of the finest typing machines ever made. The typing action is wonderfully smooth and solid, swift and efficient. This is a typewriter to use and treasure, something to pass along to the next generation. Really a marvelous machine in perfect condition.
