Torpedo Model 18 1959

€720.00Price

This is an excellent example of a mid-century Torpedo, Model 18B, typewriter.  It is a solid work-horse, is in excellent condition cosmetically and in full working condition mechanically. This typewriter is ready for another 60 years of service. It has a lovely champagne-blue colour combined with the lovely teal-blue keys.

This is a fully-working--as original--typewriter. The only thing that you have to do is sit down, put paper on the roller and start typing. This Model 18 comes with the "Acme" lead certification seal attached to the typewriter under the keyboard. This seal permanently identifies this typewriter as a genuine Acme-restored typewriter and provides for a 6-month warranty at no charge. (See below for details.) We guarantee safe delivery and provide careful and attentive after-purchase advice and assistance from the date of purchase to the end of eternity to ensure your full satisfaction.

The Model 18 typewriter, manufactured by Torpedo proved to be such a popular model typewriter, in so many ways, that it was produced under various brands (incl. Blue Bird and Remington) and sold throughout the world. The typing action is wonderfully fast and solid.

Cosmetically, this Torpedo is in very fine condition. The finish colour is uniform and almost entirely unblemished. The right-side platen roller knob has some superficial scratches. Both knobs are original to the machine and have not been replaced. The chrome is all in excellent condition except for a couple of small spots on the carriage return lever. The chrome strips around the base of the ribbon cover and the bottom of the typewriter are in top condition. (Often one sees light corrosion or even rusting, especially along the bands under the ribbon cover and at the bottom of the typewriter, but NOT on this one.)

Mechanically this typewriter is in fully working condition. All the mechanical aspects have been inspected and adjustments or alignments were made as required. The platen roller is smooth and clean with a hardness rating of ~95 (ideal being 85-95). The typing keys are in fine condition with no signs of fingernail scratches.  The paper feed rollers are all soft and grip the paper well. The rubber feet are in excellent, nearly new condition and serve well to hold the typewriter to the desktop. The platen roller knobs are solid and strong.

Based on the serial number (1065575) this machine is from 1959.

The typeface is a beautiful and crisp Elite (12 cpi). The keyboard is international QWERTY with accents for European languages. A new bi-colour ribbon has been installed so you are ready to type.

Comes with the original hard case in good, solid condition. The case has some signs of wear and use and is missing the rubber feet on the base.
