  • 1960 Torpedo Model 30 Typewriter with original two-tone colouring!

    €700.00Price

This is a very fine and visually impressive two-tone, Torpedo, Model 30 typewriter. The colours on this typewriters are ORIGINAL to its manufacture. It is a lovely little typing machine and is in wonderful condition mechanically and cosmetically. With the new platen rubber it is ready to type! This Model 30 has been fully refurbished: serviced, cleaned, adjusted and aligned and has been outfitted with a new ribbon. It comes with original hard case, sales receipt, user manual and advertising leaflet.

The design of this typewriter is a movement into the modern, bridging the period between mid-century modern in the 50's and the "Space Age" design of the 60's. The designer, probably Andreas Salzberger, who is credited with designing the Torpedo Model 18, was trying something new, moving away from the "institutional" design of earlier models.

The Model 30 is a rather uncommon typewriter. It is hard to determine exactly how many were manufactured but I feel certain that there are very few existing in this beautiful condition anymore. The Model 30 uses a "basket shift" mechanism for a lighter typing feel.

From a mechanical perspective this is a fine machine. It is a swift and tight typer and, although being a smaller portable, has a very solid feel. This typewriter is in excellent typing condition. The typing action is fast and crisp. All mechanical aspects of this typewriter have been checked, inspected and adjusted as needed.

The body finish, overall, is in excellent condition with only two very small areas of paint loss--that have been professionally retouched--under the carriage return lever on the ribbon cover. The chrome is in fine condition with the single exception of very light wear on the lever that allows the carriage return lever to raise and lower. The platen roller has been replaced with new rubber. The Paper Feed Rollers and the rubber feet are still in fine condition and soft. The chrome logos are all in top condition.

Based on the serial number this machine is from 1960. The typeface, as mentioned is a wonderful Congress Pica (10 characters to the inch)  The keyboard is QWERTY with accents and letters for foreign languages.!

The case is in excellent condition, solid, with few signs of wear or usage.

This Torpedo 30 has been conserved to our highest standards. It has been fully serviced, adjusted and aligned, cleaned inside and out, and is ready for some serious typing.
