Triumph Perfekt -- The Safari Typewriter 1960
Triumphs are not only finely engineered motorcycles! A branch of the company also made superior quality typewriters in Germany. At Acme we call this version of the Triumph Perfekt typewriter the "Safari model" Triumph. This has to do with the fact that with its "khaki & cream" colouring and beautiful lines we can envision a very stylish person typing on it while it rests on a folding camp table on safari somewhere. The external design is beautiful and evocative of the late 50s or early 60s. The internal mechanics are as good as they come. Those who know Triumphs know what I am talking about. And what a feel! The typing is tight and fast and there is no carriage in the entire typewriter kingdom that moves as smoothly or lightly.
This is a perfect example of the Perfekt typewriter. This model comes with a tabulator system and was considered a "high end" typewriter when it was introduced. This one is in exceptionally fine cosmetic condition and it is working perfectly. The typeface is a very handsome "Congress Pica" and the keyboard is QWERTY. This typewriter has been fully serviced, completely cleaned, aligned, adjusted and lubricated for years of good service. It has been outfitted with a new bi-colour ribbon so you can start typing immediately. This typewriter comes with the original Triumph-branded brush and polishing cloth, original factory typing test and User Manual and the original key for the case in its paper envelope.
This is a fully-working--as original--typewriter. The only thing that you have to do is sit down, put paper on the roller and start typing. This Triumph comes with the "Acme" lead certification seal attached to the typewriter under the keyboard. This seal permanently identifies this typewriter as a genuine Acme-restored typewriter and provides for a 6-month warranty at no charge. (See below for details.) We guarantee safe delivery and provide careful and attentive after-purchase advice and assistance from the date of purchase to the end of eternity to ensure your full satisfaction. In terms of an investment, the Acme Seal proves that this machine was restored in 2021 by the Acme Type Machine Company. This can add value in the event that you wish to sell this typewriter in the future. And the fact that this has a new platen adds even more value.
The platen roller is in nearly new condition, smooth and clean, with a hardness rating of 87 (Durometer, Shore A scale; 85-95 being the ideal range). The paper feed rollers, which are a composition material of rubber and cork, or simply cork, are in fine condition and grip the paper well. The rubber feet are still in fine condition and soft, holding the typewriter well to the desktop. The chrome is shiny and unblemished. The painted finish is in excellent condition.
The original hard metal case is a composite material that was an unfortunate decision on the part of Triumph. It is wonderfully solid and strong but the metal is prone to corrosion. This case is in fine condition with the external Triumph badge intact and in good condition however the metal top cover is affected by the typical corrosion. The chrome and the handle are in very fine condition.
Based on the serial number (1267863) this machine was manufactured in 1960.

https://oztypewriter.blogspot.nl/2012/05/triumph-portable-typewriters.htmlShort History of the Triumph Typewriters: Two Germans, Siegfried Bettmann and M. Schulte, founded the“ Triumph Cycle Company Ltd” in England around 1890. In 1896 they decided to establish a subsidiary “Triumph-Fahrrad-Werke AG” back in Nürnberg. In Germany, the company began to focus on the manufacture of typewriters instead of bicycles and motorcycles. During World War II production of typewriters ceased as arms production was started. In 1953 Triumph was taken over by Grundig, merged with Adlerwerke and renamed Triumph-Adler and in 1957 the popular Gabriele portable typewriter and an electric typewriter were introduced. In 1979 the company was acquired by Volkswagen and in 1986 by the Italian typewriter company, Olivetti. Typewriter production was closed down in 1997. If you are shopping for a typewriter, please note that the Platen (the black, rubber-covered roller on which the paper is wound and which receives the strike of the metal key to imprint the letter) is one of the most important elements for the enjoyable use of your typewriter and for making a correct imprint on the paper. Over time, the rubber becomes hard. This hardness results in an unpleasant, loud clatter as you type, a harder shock to your finger bones, and a faulty imprint of the letter on the paper. In the glory days of typing, platens would be replaced every few years, just like replacing the tires on your car. The typical cost for a new platen is around 125$, not including labour costs. If you are spending hundreds of dollars on a typewriter, take the time to ask the seller about the platen. Ask the seller what is the hardness measurement of the platen. It should be between 85 and 95. Most dealers simply clean off the platen and don't mention the hardness in their description. At Acme we install new platens, at no extra cost, on any typewriter that needs one in order to ensure the best typing experience and the best, decades-long operation of your typewriter.
