SORRY, SOLD! 1961 Blue Bird Typewriter (Model 18B)
There are reasons why the "Model 18B" is one of the most coveted of typewriters. And this particular typewriter has all those reasons in spades! Marvelous looking on your dek and a dream to type on. This is an exceptionally fine example of a mid-century, two-tone Blue Bird (Torpedo), Model 18B, typewriter. It is a solid work-horse and is in excellent condition cosmetically and in full, original working condition mechanically. And this is the original paint finish; it has not been overpainted. The platen has been professionally renovated with new rubber and the typewriter has been outfitted with a new Acme Signature Blue ribbon. It has a lovely two-tone blue and grey colour combined with the handsome silver keys. The typing action is wonderfully fast and solid. With the new platen, it is a dream to type with. Collectors and users alike sing the praises of the Model 18 typewriter.
Like all of our typewriters this is a fully-working typewriter. It comes with the "Acme" lead certification seal attached to the typewriter which permanently identifies it as a genuine Acme-restored typewriter and provides for a one year warranty. We guarantee safe delivery and provide careful and attentive after-purchase advice and assistance from the date of purchase to the end of eternity to ensure your full satisfaction. In terms of an investment, the Acme Seal proves that this machine was restored by the Acme Type Machine Company. This can add value in the event that you wish to sell this typewriter in the future.
As an investment, this would be an excellent choice. The condition of the typewriter is extraordinary and with the new platen, the full restoration and the Acme seal, it should retain its value and slowly increase over time. Even with regular use.
This is a Model 18 "B" and therefore has the tabulator system. The Model 18B proved to be such a popular model typewriter, in so many ways, that it was produced under various brands (incl. Torpedo and Remington) and sold throughout the world.
The body finish is in top condition, and without almost any signs of use or age. The keys and spacebar show minimal signs of use. The chrome is in fine condition overall.
Regarding the rubber: Platen Roller, as stated, has professionally replaced rubber by one of the oldest rubber companies in Europe. The Paper Feeder Rollers are new-like and soft. The feet are in fine condition and are soft and grip the desktop well. (If you know Model 18's, you know that this is a weak point of the design--but not on this typewriter!)
The typeface is a lovely Elite with 12 characters to the inch (see photo). The keyboard is standard QWERTY and includes the "@" symbol. You can see in the photos an example of the crisp, clear and dark letters that this machine produces. It comes with two vintage metal ribbon spool and a new Acme Signature blue ribbon.
This Blue Bird Model 18 comes with its original case which, unfortunately, has a crack in the base. Nonetheless, the case will protect the typewriter well and will allow it to be transported easily and in full safety.
