Princess 300 1961
This lovely, blue and cream, Princess 300, from 1961, is in superb overall condition. It is a beautiful colour combination and simply gorgeous. This typewriter has its original colouring--it has not been repainted. It has been fully restored, cleaned, lubricated and adjusted. It comes with a newly renovated platen roller guaranteeing many years of good typing. It is wonderful to use and absolutely lovely to look at! A lovely combination of inspired mid-century industrial design and German engineering!
This typewriter comes with the "Acme" lead seal attached to the typewriter under the keyboard. This seal permanently identifies this typewriter as a genuine Acme-restored typewriter and provides for lifetime servicing at no charge. (See below for details.)
This lovely PRINCESS 300 is a pleasure in every way and is certainly the finest example of this model typewriter that I have yet had the pleasure to offer to my clients. It has been very lightly used, well-cared-for over the years and comes with original manual, original guarantee and test certificate and also the original typebar blocking card. This holds the typebars in place when transporting the typewriter and I have never before found one for a Princess.
We have restored dozens of these Princess typewriters over the years and I am always impressed by the overall high quality, mechanical design and the smoothness with which they operate. As an example, the ribbon colour selector switch on the left is as cool as they come. When you switch to red or no-colour a little colour-block comes into the glass window above the switch. Tabs are set (and removed) at the touch of a finger with the special key on the right side.
This typewriter is in superb cosmetic condition and working perfectly. The gold Princess logo is bright and shiny as new. All the chrome is utterly unblemished and uncorroded. The keytops are in excellent condition with only the slightest scratching on the D and S keys. The painted finish only has the tiniest of blemishes and these few are located at the back side of the typewriter. As mentioned, it has been fully cleaned inside and out, and has a new ribbon.
Mechanically this Princess is in top working condition. Everything works as it should and as originally designed. The rubber on the platen roller has been renewed and this will provide for smooth, soft, quiet typing for many years. The paper feed rollers are in excellent condition. The rubber feet are still in fine condition and soft, holding the typewriter well to the desktop. An interesting technical design element is the leather buffer pads that rest between the rubber feet and the base of the typewriter. These add an extra layer of cushion. I have never before seen this detail on a Princess.
The lovely, blue case is in beautiful condition. The hasp works perfectly and is as shiny as new (the photo does not reflect this). The interior paper flap is in perfect condition and the bottom covering is a lovely blue velvet in excellent condition. The interior cloth lining is overall in excellent condition with only light wear. The lovely faux calf-leather case is in excellent, original condition. The interior paper flap is in excellent condition and the snap closure works well. The interior case fabric is in fine condition. There is a small area on the front of the case where the cover shows some wear but besides that it is in top condition.
The typeface is a lovely Pica (10 cpi). As compared to many Princesses I see for sale, this has the original QWERTY keyboard common to English language writers. It has accents needed to write in other European languages, too.
