Swissa Junior 1963

€495.00Price

This is a very fine example of the Swissa Junior typewriter from 1963. These are quite difficult to come by and nearly unheard of with the cubic/techno typeface. This typewriter is absolutely beautiful and works perfectly! It comes with original hard case. The colour of the finish is all original; this typewriter has not been repainted. This typewriter has been fully serviced, adjusted and cleaned and is ready for action. It comes with a 3-month mechanical guarantee and will be shipped fully insured at no extra cost.

Swissa typewiters are not at all common but they are a highly prized typewriter. They are small and portable but they have the feel of a bigger typewriter--very solid and steady.  Made only from the mid 1950s to the mid 1960s, there were relatively few manufactured. The records of the company (Birchmeier's Soehne, Murgental, Aargau, Switzerland) were lost when the company finally ceased all production around 1980, so definitive information about production of the "Junior" model is not possible to come by. The company also produced the excellent portable, the Swissa Piccola.

The unusual button on the upper right side of the keyboard is a "disentangler". You press this down in case that you are typing quickly and two keybars get stuck. It is a very handy-dandy little mechanism for those of us whose fingers sometimes get ahead of us.

This typewriter is in excellent cosmetic condition and working perfectly. There is one small area of paint wear on the ribbon-cover under the carriage return lever (shown in the photos). Other than that there are only two very tiny pin-size points on the left side of the ribbon cover. The chrome is in excellent condition overall with no signs of corrosion or excess wear.

The platen roller is smooth, clean and still relatively soft. The hardness measures around 95, so it is on the high side of ideal (generally 85-95) but, as you can see, the imprint is quite good. The ultimate buyer may wish to replace the rubber on the platen. We can do this for you for an additional charge of 95$.) The paper feeder rollers and the rubber feet are in superb condition.

As mentioned, the mechanics have been thoroughly cleaned, adjusted, aligned and lubricated. See below for a list of the tests that this typewriter has undergone. It types as well as it did originally.

Based on the serial number (6305200) this machine is from 1963.

The typeface is Techno/Cubic Elite (12 cpi). We actually don't know the precise name of the typeface so I am using the nomenclature of Hermes typewriters because the typeface looks so similar to theirs. The keyboard is International QWERTY with accents for foreign languages. This typewriter comes with a new two-colour ribbon so that you can start typing immediately and with pleasure.

This Swissa Junior comes with its original hard case which is in super condition. There is some slight corrosion on the metal pieces of the handle and hasp, but beyond that only the most minor of blemishes.
