SORRY, SOLD! 1964 Hermes 3000 with Director-Special typeface and DeLuxe Case
  • SORRY, SOLD! 1964 Hermes 3000 with Director-Special typeface and DeLuxe Case

A beautiful, professionally restored Hermes 3000 with rare "Director Special" typeface AND an uncommon deLuxe case--A beautiful combination and fully restored and working perfectly! Cosmetically and mechanically perfect. The Director-Special is a serif based typeface with 10 characters to the inch, and a broader escapement space (2.5mm) meaning that the letters are slightly further apart giving a very elegant look.

Our Hermes typewriters are sourced for Acme by our agent in Switzerland who selects only the finest ones from the many that he finds. We prefer to get our Hermes from Switzerland. The Swiss keyboard has extra keys for foreign languages and many of our clients are diplomats, journalists and others who shift between various languages in their work. The Swiss people, in general, take excellent care of their possessions and so the typewriters we find there have been very well-maintained.

This particular HERMES 3000, is in perfect condition, mechanically and cosmetically, and has been thoroughly cleaned, serviced, adjusted and aligned. It comes with an uncommon, DeLuxe case. This case has a soft leather finish (although it is a hard-case) and has a watered-silk interior. The typewriter has been fitted with a new ribbon so you can start typing immediately. This is a typing machine that is ready to work for many good years of typing service. And with its brilliant Hermes engineering, it does that with elegance, smoothness and solidity.

Acme typewriters have been the choice of discerning collectors and writers more than 1,000 times since we began selling online in 2016. They are fully guaranteed to work. Most shipments to the US arrive in 3 days--often much faster than most domestic shipments within the US. Acme typewriters are carefully selected, beautifully restored and come with a one-year mechanical warranty and lifetime customer-service. Each comes with a lead seal, attached to the body, identifying it as a fully-restored Acme typewriter. Many new dealers strive to imitate us--none succeed.

Overall, this Hermes is in excellent condition. The cosmetic condition is excellent. The chrome and aluminum are in top condition with no signs of corrosion. The typing keys are clean and unmarked by use. Both platen roller knobs are absolutely solid.  The platen is clean, smooth and takes the imprint well (see typing sample).
Mechanically, it is in superb working condition. The paper feeder rollers are in perfect condition and soft. The feet are in excellent condition, soft and still grip the desktop well. All mechanical devices have been checked and adjusted as necessary, and work as originally manufactured. Everything on this typewriter is original to its manufacture and original purchase.

The case/cover is in very fine condition with only the barest signs of use on the exterior. The chrome pieces are shiny and bright as new and the handle is clean and intact. The interior is in good condition however there were repairs on the silk lining at some point, so it is not perfect but, overall, looks very good. The interior flap works perfectly.

The keyboard is QWERTY with extra character keys and accent keys for foreign languages--especially useful for French and German. The typeface is Hermes Director Special (10 c.p.i.).

This fine example of a Hermes 3000 will be packed and shipped with the greatest care to preserve its condition and beauty. We have a lot of experience in shipping typewriters and have an excellent track record for proper packing and safe delivery. It will be fully insured for shipment.
