Hermes 3000 1965
This is very nice example of a mid-century HERMES 3000, one of the most renowned brands and models of typewriter ever made! And this is an excellent example from 1965. It is in nice condition, mechanically and cosmetically, and has been thoroughly cleaned, adjusted and serviced. It is ready for many good years of typing service and has the lovely and iconic sea-foam green keys.
This is a typing machine that is ready to work, and work hard. And with its brilliant Hermes engineering, it does that with elegance, smoothness and solidity. This typewriter is sold with a 3-month mechanical guarantee.
Overall, this typewriter is in very nice condition. There are no areas of corrosion or wear on the chromed parts. Everything is original to the machine's manufacture in Switzerland. There are, though, a few areas of wear and some signs of usage. On the base plate are a couple of spots of paint loss as well as some re-touched places under the spacebar. The keys are clean and unmarked by use. Both platen roller knobs are absolutely solid and clean without any cracks or other damage.
This HERMES 3000 has a QWERTY keyboard (US/UK). The typeface/font is the sought-after Hermes Director Elite (12 cpi). This font is much more elegant than the ordinary Hermes Elite. Please see the typing sample in the photos.
Mechanically, it is in excellent working condition. The paper feeder rollers are in near-perfect condition and soft. The feet are somewhat harder than when originally manufactured but are in fine condition and can still grip the desktop. All mechanical devices (including, but not exclusive of, the tabulator system, the red Ribbon margin indicator, touch regulator, ribbon colour selection mechanism, ribbon advance and reverse mechanisms, etc.) have been checked and adjusted as necessary, and are in fine working condition. The platen is smooth and clean. It is a little harder than ideal, measuring around 96 on the durometer (84-95 considered by many to be ideal). If desired by the new owner, a new platen can be ordered with this typewriter at a cost of 90$. This can be arranged after purchase.
The case/cover is in fine condition. The chrome pieces holding the handle are showing the beginning signs of corrosion. The base is showing signs of age with a few bumps and some minor paint loss. The interior is in near-perfect condition with all chrome pieces unblemished.
This model comes with the wonderful red margin indicators built into the paper guard which moves automatically when the margins are set. This is so that you can visually see the exact placement of the margins while you are typing. A wonderful touch!
Based on the serial number (3271724) this machine is from 1964.
This fine example of the HERMES 3000 will be packed and shipped, fully insured, with the greatest care to preserve its condition and beauty.
