This is an exceptionally fine Erika Model 3 portable typewriter, manufactured in 1926, and equipped with the extraordinarily rare Fraktur (sometimes called "Gothic") typeface.
Fraktur was historically used throughout German-speaking Europe for books, official documents, and newspapers. Typewriters fitted with this dramatic style typeface were produced in very small numbers, making surviving examples particularly desirable today. The typeface produces bold, angular Gothic characters that immediately evoke the visual culture of early twentieth-century Central Europe.
This typewriter comes from the collection of a prominent Austrian collector specializing in rare typefaces. It has been thoroughly and properly reconditioned including the platen. It comes with its original case.
