Forest-Green Textured Finish

The Halda Model P occupies a distinctive place among the finest European portables of the post-war period. Designed and manufactured in Sweden, it combines a compact, disciplined form with the deep green textured finish for which the model is especially well known. This example has a QWERTY keyboard with additional European characters and a Pica typeface at 10 characters per inch. The cosmetic condition is excellent. The green finish remains rich and even, the chrome is in superb condition, and the rubber footing around the baseplate remains soft and effective.

The Model P is particularly admired for its typing action. It has a soft, controlled and substantial typing feel, giving a sense of solidity without being heavy. The original metal ribbon spools are present and fitted with a new ribbon; on a Halda, these spools are important to correct ribbon movement and operation.

The Model P is represented in museum collections, including Museums Victoria, and the model is also associated with Ernest Hemingway, who owned and used a Halda portable. Acme has worked extensively on Halda machines and is particularly familiar with the requirements of reconditioning them.

This typewriter has been restored by Acme to its original factory operating standard. The mechanism has been carefully cleaned, adjusted and calibrated, preserving the original finish, keyboard and case. It bears the permanent Acme Seal, attached discretely on the mechanism, identifying restoration within our workshop and providing enduring provenance.
