  • SORRY, SOLD! Hermes 3000 Typewriter

    €1,150.00Price

This is a fine and beautiful HERMES 3000, one of the most renowned brands and models of typewriters ever made! It is in lovely condition, mechanically and cosmetically, and has been thoroughly cleaned, serviced, adjusted and aligned. The platen has been refurbished with new rubber and this typewriter has been fitted with a new BACO two-colour ribbon. This Hermes 3000 comes with its original, Hermes-branded cleaning brushes and erasing card in their original box. This is a typing machine that is ready to work for many good years of typing service. And with its brilliant Hermes engineering, it does that with elegance, smoothness and solidity.

Like all of our typewriters this is a fully-working typewriter. It comes with the "Acme" lead certification seal attached to the typewriter which permanently identifies it as a genuine Acme-restored typewriter and provides for a one year warranty. We guarantee safe delivery and provide careful and attentive after-purchase advice and assistance from the date of purchase to the end of eternity to ensure your full satisfaction. In terms of an investment, the Acme Seal proves that this machine was restored by the Acme Type Machine Company. This can add value in the event that you wish to sell this typewriter in the future.

Once in a while, as I work on other sorts of typewriters I begin to wonder if Hermes 3000's are really the apex of typewriter design and construction, as so many believe. Then I sit down and work on one and I realize. . . they are, indeed, the finest all-around typewriter made. (In my humble opinion.) And, truth be told, I have one on my own office desk--not for show, but for USE! And, as you can imagine, I have my choice of any typewriter!

Overall, this Hermes is in excellent condition. The cosmetic condition is excellent however it has some small spots of wear, especially on the bottom (see photo of base). The chrome and aluminum are in top condition with no signs of corrosion. The typing keys are clean and unmarked by use. Both platen roller knobs are absolutely solid.  The small round knob (carriage release knob) has a black spot in the photos. This is an ink smudge (my dirty fingers) and will be removed.

Mechanically, it is in superb working condition. The paper feeder rollers are in perfect condition and soft. The feet are in excellent condition, soft and still grip the desktop well. All mechanical devices (including, but not exclusive of, the ribbon colour selection mechanism, ribbon advance and reverse mechanisms, margin release, etc.) have been checked and adjusted as necessary, and work as originally manufactured. Everything on this typewriter is original to its manufacture and original purchase.

The case/cover is in excellent condition. The chrome pieces are shiny and bright and the handle is clean and intact. The interior is in near-perfect condition with all chrome pieces unblemished. At some point the handle ends have been over-taped with a strong, chrome tape. I am not sure why that was done. I decided to not change it as the handle is strong and looks fine.

The keyboard is English QWERTY with extra Spanish keys and accent keys for foreign languages. The typeface is Hermes Pica (10 c.p.i.). Based on the serial number this machine was manufactured in 1959.

This fine example of a Hermes 3000 will be packed and shipped with the greatest care to preserve its condition and beauty. We have a lot of experience in shipping typewriters and have an excellent track record for proper packing and safe delivery. It will be fully insured for shipment.
