OLYMPIA SM2 Typewriter

This is a mint condition, 1959, OLYMPIA SM2 typewriter, in sage-green with forest-green keys. It is in absolutely perfect condition in every way. It has been fully serviced, aligned and adjusted. We have outfitted this SM2 with a new two-colour ribbon so you can start typing immediately. It comes with a hard case in excellent condition, the original User Manual, and the original Olympia cleaning brush.

This is as close as any of us will ever get to going to the typewriter store to buy a new SM2. This is a rare find and a rare chance to buy this classic model typewriter. This SM2 was found in a lovely canal house in the "classic" Dutch city of Delft and had been the property of a family associated with the university there.

Mechanically this typewriter is in perfect working condition. Everything works as it should and as originally designed. There is simply nothing more to say about its mechanical condition.

The keyboard is standard US/UK (QWERTY) with international accents for European languages. The typeface is Olympia's "Pica #97" (10 c.p.i.) which is a very nice, solid looking font while still retaining a certain elegance.

Regarding the rubber: Platen Roller is smooth and clean. The Paper Feeder Rollers are new-like and soft. The Feet are new-like and soft.
Regarding the chrome: Perfect.
Regarding the Body and finish condition: Perfect
Regarding the typing keys: uniform deep green colour with no fingernail scratches or other blemishes

The platen, as mentioned is smooth and clean with no pits or other blemishes. The durometer reading shows a hardness of 94-95. This is on the high side of ideal. However, you can judge the printing yourself with the photo of the typing sample. We are happy to install a newly renovated platen for this SM2 at a cost of 90$. This can be arranged after purchase.

It comes with the original case "streamliner" case which is in excellent condition inside and outside. The only points to note are that the chrome holding the handle has some light corrosion and there is no key to lock the hasp. The interior has minor marks where the typewriter feet have sat for decades and some slight discolouration on the upper rear panel. The original Olympia branded cleaning brush and user manual are included.

Based on the serial number (1381005) this machine was manufactured in 1959.
