Introduced in the early 1970s, the Olympia Traveller de Luxe represented a new generation of portable typewriters. While lighter and more compact than the celebrated SM series, it retained the mechanical precision and reliability for which Olympia Werke had become internationally respected. Designed for portability without sacrificing typing quality, the Traveller de Luxe offered a remarkably substantial writing experience in a machine intended to accompany its owner wherever work might take place.
The present example, manufactured in 1974, exemplifies the model's enduring appeal. Its typing action is light, responsive, and notably refined for a portable machine, with a stable touch that recalls the feel of a larger office typewriter. Compact in proportion yet reassuringly capable, it is equally suited to correspondence, creative writing, or everyday use.
Preserved in superb condition, the machine retains an exceptionally bright original finish with only minimal evidence of careful ownership. The chrome remains bright, the rubber components retain their original resilience, and the original carrying case is likewise exceptionally well preserved—a notable feature, as surviving Traveller cases are often found with cracks or other damage.
This typewriter has been restored by Acme Type Machine Company to its original mechanical standard. The mechanism has been cleaned, adjusted, and calibrated, and a new ribbon has been installed. The machine bears the permanent Acme Seal, identifying restoration within our workshop and providing enduring provenance.
