OLYMPIA SM1 Typewriter· 1949

Persian / Arabic Keyboard

This is a rare early Olympia SM1 from 1949, fitted with a Persian/Arabic-language keyboard and typeface. It represents the very first generation of Olympia’s SM series—an important foundation for what would become one of the most respected portable typewriter designs of the twentieth century.

This example has been fully restored and conserved and is ready for use. It is supplied with a new ribbon and requires nothing further to begin typing. Mechanically, the machine functions exactly as intended. The action is smooth and consistent, the alignment precise, and all systems operate as originally manufactured. The platen and rubber feet are in excellent condition and provide proper grip and clean impressions.

The machine has documented provenance. It originally belonged to an Iranian scholar who emigrated from Tehran to Europe shortly after the Second World War. He specialized in comparative Persian literature, and the typewriter was used in an academic context—an uncommon and appropriate history for a machine of this configuration.

Cosmetically, the typewriter presents very well, retaining its original finish and character. It is accompanied by its original hard carrying case, which is solid and well preserved, suitable for storage or transport.

Every Acme typewriter is restored in our workshop and fitted with the permanent Acme certification seal, identifying it as an authentic Acme-restored machine. Each purchase includes a one-year mechanical warranty and lifetime customer care.

This Olympia SM1 will be packed and shipped with care, fully insured, to preserve its condition in transit.
