  • SORRY, SOLD! Rare 1954 Erika Model 9 Typewriter in Pristine Condition

    €850.00Price

Typewriters do not come better than this! This extraordinary find is an exceptionally fine and rare ERIKA Model 9 typewriter in pristine condition, cosmetically and mechanically, from 1954. It comes complete with original case also in pristine condition. It has a QWERTY keyboard for ease of typing. Why buy this typewriter? It has a brilliant typing feel, it is in "as-new" condition, and its rarity and condition will always attract the highest price (so: a good investment!).

The great Robert Messenger calls the Model 9 "the Unprepossessing Yet Holy Grail Erika" (see link below). The Model 9 is a compact, very portable, very high quality typing machine. This example is, remarkably, in "as-new" condition. The finish is perfect (except for one tiny spot about the size of two pinheads). The chrome is perfect. The rubber is in perfect condition (Platen has ideal softness/hardness of 89 on the Shore A scale). It comes with its two original brushes, and two original metal ribbon spools. The typeface is Pica with 10 characters to the inch. It has a QWERTY keyboard and keys for European languages. It is handsome, compact and very portable.

One "tell" of the amount of use a typewriter has is the condition of the typebar rest, where the typebar heads settle after typing a character. usually these are stained with ink, hardened by age and generally deteriorated even after moderate use. Look at the photo of this one. Hardly a sign of use!
On the case, there is the number 13 written in chalk; once on the case cover and once on the case base. This number is still intact after 70 years.

It has a QWERTY keyboard with keys for European languages and the typing action is superb: light and fast but with solid and quick carriage movement (for fast typewriting). The typeface is standard Pica, with 10 characters to the inch.

I cannot speak highly enough about this typewriter so, I will just leave it there. Send me a message if I have forgotten any important information.
