Manufactured in Nuremberg in 1935 by the distinguished German maker Triumph, this Triumph Norm is fitted with the extraordinary Steile Zierschrift (“Decorative Vertical”) typeface which is among the rarest and most sought-after German type styles ever installed in a production typewriter. This typewriter was previously in the collection of an important European collector.
Unlike conventional serif or sans-serif fonts, Steile Zierschrift combines strong architectural verticality with elegant Art Deco influences, producing text of remarkable character and presence. The letterforms are sharply defined, rhythmic and highly stylised, creating an appearance that is simultaneously formal, modernist and unmistakably European.
